Who I am and how to reach me

The short version
This website has no analytics, advertising or tracking. The site itself sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. If you choose to play a video or open the booking calendar, YouTube or TuCalendi may set cookies under their own policies. The emails from my mailing lists are different: see Mailing lists below.
What I collect and why
Optional fields on any form can be left empty. I do not sell what you send, share it beyond the services listed below, or add you to a list you did not sign up for.
Speaking request
On the Speaking page, you give me your name, email, organisation, role and phone; the event's theme, dates, format, location and website; and the session's type, objectives, audience, expected attendees, budget and how you heard about me. I use it to reply and to decide whether I can take part. It is saved to a Google Sheet and sent to my email, both in my Google Workspace account, and deleted 24 months after our last contact.
Contact
On the Contact page, you give me your name, email, the topic you choose and your message. I use it to reply. It is saved to a Google Sheet and sent to my email, both in my Google Workspace account, and deleted 24 months after our last contact.
Book waitlist
On the Book page and the home page, you give me your first name and email. I use it only to email you about the book. It is kept by SendFox, the email service that runs the list.

On the Writing page and at the end of each essay, you give me your first name and email. I use it only to send you new essays and research updates. It is kept by SendFox, the email service that runs the list.
Booking a call
The booking calendar is TuCalendi's, and it loads only after you press a booking button. To book, TuCalendi asks for your name and email, your answers to a few questions about the session and, if you choose to give it, your mobile number. I use them to arrange and hold the call. If you book a paid session, payment is handled by Stripe, and I never see your full card number. TuCalendi's privacy policy applies to what you enter there.
Services I use
These are the only outside services involved. Each one's name links to its privacy policy.
- Google, based in the United States. Receives the speaking request and contact forms, saves them to a Google Sheet and emails them to me. When: Only when you press Send on one of those forms.
- SendFox, based in the United States. Runs the two mailing lists and sends their emails. When: When you join a list, and in the emails it sends you.
- TuCalendi, based in Spain. The booking calendar on the Contact page. When: Only after you press a booking button on the Contact page.
- Stripe, based in the United States. Processes payment for paid sessions booked through TuCalendi. When: Only when you book a paid session.
- YouTube, based in the United States. Plays the TEDxRRU talk on the Speaking page, in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. Owned by Google. When: Only after you press play.
- GitHub Pages, based in the United States. Hosts the site. GitHub records the IP address of every visitor for security. When: Every visit to any page.
Links to other websites, such as LinkedIn, Substack or news articles, contact nothing until you follow them. Once you do, that site's own policy applies.
Storage outside Canada
Some of these providers store or process information outside Canada, mainly in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities there under local law.
Mailing lists
You confirm by email before anything is sent. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect promptly. The mailing address above appears in every email.
If you unsubscribe, SendFox keeps your email address marked as unsubscribed, so you are never added again by mistake.
SendFox records whether an email is opened and which links are clicked. I use this only to see what readers find useful.
How long I keep it
Speaking and contact submissions are deleted 24 months after our last contact. This happens automatically each month. Mailing-list details are kept until you unsubscribe, apart from the unsubscribed address described above.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, or withdraw your consent, by emailing privacy@dapobankole.com. I respond within 30 days.
Security
The accounts that hold your information use two-step sign-in wherever the service offers it, and only I have access to them.
Spam protection
Forms use automated checks to filter spam. Messages that look like spam are set aside rather than deleted straight away. I review them, so a genuine message caught by mistake still reaches me. Anything still marked as spam is deleted after 90 days.
Complaints
If you are not satisfied with my response, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta, or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada for matters outside Alberta.
